DON --- SUSAN --- MICHAEL

The power of God is truly awesome! In the word of God, we read of many instances in which God used the physical world around His people to move them in a specific direction. That is just what happened in August of 1992. Following Hurricane Andrew churches of Christ from across the country sent an incredible amount of relief aid to the Houma, Louisiana congregation for the storm victims in their area.
Two congregations, the Hollywood Road church of Christ in Houma, Louisiana, and the Village church of Christ in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, combined their resources and began efforts to establish a congregation of the Lord’s church in Montegut, Louisiana. Thus, began the effort of establishing the Lord’s church along the bayous of southern Terrebonne parish. In December of 1993, Don Neyland became the third part of this effort to bring that congregation to this area.  The Neyland family moved into the Montegut area to begin the Lord’s work. The congregation began with the Neyland family and two sisters in Christ and met for the first time the last Sunday in March, 1994.
Our first building was a rented facility, Blackie’s Bar, located on Hwy 55 just south of the Pointe-Aux-Chenes cut-off. But very shortly after some dismantling (of the bar) and some paint Blackie’s Bar became the first meeting place for the South Terrebonne church of Christ.
In June of 1999, the South Terrebonne church of Christ moved into their new facilities located at 1043 Hwy 55 with a congregation of 60+. In 2002 a series of storms culminating with Hurricane Lili hit the area and once again a congregation of the church of Christ was able to serve Christ and community, this time in their own community.  South Terrebonne church of Christ through Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Nashville handled right at $700,000.00 in food, supplies, materials and furnishings.
Once again the congregation found itself dealing with storms from the Gulf. Hurricanes Katrina and Rita delt the entire Gulf Coast a devastating blow. October of 2005 found the congregation struggling with massive flooding. This time we had 11 families from within our own congregation who were flooded and forced out of their homes.
The congregation continues to flourish dispite these latest setbacks.  The brethren at South Terrebonne church of Christ are, as are many others throughout the region, struggling to find their way in this new Post Katrina world.
